Open Badges

Well today I found Mozilla  Open Badges
The Mozilla Open Badges (Open Badge Infrastructure or OBI) project is a program by Mozilla that issues digital badges to recognize skills and achievements. So I jumped right in and started  101 What are Open Badges? I wanted to see how badges could help me or my Website I wanted to know how these badges could promote me and just what good it would be displaying them on www.matts-myth.com.
After a couple of hours of reading I can see the potential, not only will it demonstrate my understanding of the web but it will allow me to continue learning which has lead me to start Webmaking 101

For those of you who don't know me yet:

I'm Matt Smyth
I live in Christchurch, New Zealand
I am a Christchurch based Web Developer who offers a wide array of media services, including: Web Site Design & Development, Graphic Design, Electronic Newsletters & Interactive Multimedia Projects. All Projects Custom Designed!
I specialise in developing a web presence for small-business, eCommerce, related sites
I am available for consultation, planning, development, hosting, and marketing.
I enjoy working together with my clients to strategically place their businesses online. My sites are quality sites that are sensitive to the needs of my clients, designed to be self-maintaining. I am available for hire, tenure, and contract work.

I'm currently contracting myself to  Mainland Press as an I.T consultant and hoping that in the new year I can pick up some contracting as a System Engineer or perhaps a little tutoring. I'm also a code junkie who enjoys writing code for desktop, mobile, server and database applications.
I program in several languages C#.Net, Java Script, SQL, HTML, Css, but my skill set is not just code based  its design as well with several years experience in Electronic Multimedia and Systems Engineering.

The Main Reason I'm doing Webmaking 101 is to remain current , discover the badges platform and to make some new contacts who are also exploring the badges framework. So I invite you all to keep coming back to my blog as I explore the badge platform who knows maybe I can inspire someone to explore it with me and during this time I will be updating my website www.matts-myth.com

Food for thought

Yet again Google captures me before dinner time, but this time theirs a twist.

http://www.google.com/landing/recipes/
After searching for a recipe or ingredient on Google, select Recipes in the left-hand panel on the search results page. You can filter your results by ingredients, cook time, or calories
This is a stroke of genius now I can even play Food Roulette  or ask Google Whats For Dinner ? It's ironic when More than one-half of the world's people live below the internationally defined poverty line of less than U.S. $2 a day. Including 97 percent in Uganda, 80 percent in Nicaragua, 66 percent in Pakistan, and 47 percent in China, according to data from the World Bank.

With only 2$ a day to live on it seems hard to imagine that a service like this is needed
Sure its all numbers and I understand what 2$ is but what I can't grasp is 1.6 million New Yorkers live in poverty, struggling to afford basic necessities such as rent and medical care while trying to put food on their tables. While 1.6 million New Yorkers living in poverty shocked me a closer look here in my own back yard here in New Zealand  shows that according to the OECD at least one in five New Zealand children live in severe or significant hardship, while at least one in four children lived below the semi-official poverty line.

  • 1 in 25 households do not have access to a telephone, fax or the Internet in the dwelling.
  • 1 in 9 people of Mäori ethnicity live in households that do not have telephone, fax or Internet access.
  • 1 in 8 people of Pacific peoples ethnicity live in households that do not have telephone, fax or Internet access.
After all this I'm not sure what I feel like for dinner.

Website starts to fall together

Well as the tittle says my Website starts to fall together, you can have a peek now if you like www.matts-myth.com but its only 10 to 15% complete over the next few days that's going to change.

I have so many projects on the go at the moment (or ones that i just haven't finished) that it seems like im all over the place but for some strange reason I think I can see light at the end of the tunnel, fingers crossed it's not just a train coming my way.
I'm flat out and at the same time trying to enjoy the simple things in life but this content wont make itself.
